Fortune Favours The Brave
You've probably heard the old proverb "Fortune favours the
brave". It's still in common use and only the other day I heard
a sports commentator using it in relation to a soccer team
playing an important game.
Now I've never been too sure about the relevance of the term
"brave" where sportsmen are concerned, after all they're only
playing a game. For me it is those who put their own safety at
risk to help others who you could more easily refer to as
brave, like members of the armed services, firemen, life boat
crews, and mountain rescue teams. But in their case where does
"fortune" come into it? I'm not sure it does!
The Oxford English Dictionary definition of "Brave" is "having
or showing courage" or "endure or face (unpleasant conditions)
with courage".
But there is a clue in that the word brave actually has it's
origins in the Italian "Bravo" which really means "bold". The
source of the proverb is a quotation by the Roman comic
dramatist Terence but when used by the Roman poet Virgil
(c 70-19 BC) it becomes "Fortune assists the bold".
The dictionary definition of "Bold" is "confident and daring
or courageous" so when I say to you that "fortune favours
the brave" it should encourage you to be bold.
If you want to change your life you must have the confidence
and daring to do so.
You must;
- Be prepared to acquire new knowledge
- Be willing to take on new challenges
- Be open to learning new skills
- Challenge the beliefs you have been conditioned to believe
- Remove the negative influences from your life
- Open your mind to the exciting opportunities that will be
presented to you
- And have the confidence and daring to believe in yourself
and the power of your own mind.
Be bold or brave as you move forward and fortune will surely
await you.

How to Overcome the Self-Sabotaging
Behaviors that Prevent Success
Whatever you want to achieve, there are some common
problems that could derail your plans if you're not mindful
of them: self-sabotaging behaviors.
Have you ever done something that caused big problems for
you and seemed to be in direct opposition to what you
thought you wanted? Like consistently shown up late for
work even though your boss warned that you were treading on
thin ice? Or perhaps you kept feeling compelled to eat
junk food even though you were trying to lose weight and
get in shape?
Why do we do these things? You would think that setting a
goal and creating a plan would be enough to get us where we
want to go, right? Not necessarily.
Sometimes our subconscious minds can work against us, even
if we consciously believe we want something. There are
many possible reasons why we do this, but they most often
involve a fear or an ingrained habit.
Take a look at these behaviors and ask yourself whether
they have ever derailed your plans:
Procrastination:
If you've ever found yourself holding back on doing
something even though you kept telling yourself you really
wanted to do it, you were procrastinating. You may have
felt drawn to watch endless hours of television, or felt
compelled to suddenly clean out your basement, or caused
dramatic episodes with friends and family members for no
apparent reason – all so you wouldn't have to work on your
goals.
You were trying to distract yourself. Why? Believe it or
not, procrastination usually has little to do with laziness
and more to do with avoidance. Most often, you are trying
to avoid an underlying fear or resistance that you don't
feel ready to handle.
Ingrained habits:
No matter how fired up you are about your goals, your old,
ingrained habits can seem as solid as concrete. The
biggest mistake we often make is underestimating the amount
of energy and effort that will be required when we first
start making changes. We're used to doing things a certain
way and if we try to change those comfortable old routines,
we feel nervous and out of place.
In order to become comfortable with new habits, you need to
stick with them long enough so that they become second
nature. Remember, that's how you got comfortable where you
are – even if it's not exactly where you want to be.
An incredible amount of focus and willpower may be needed
in order to change your old habits, but eventually they
will become as solid as concrete too.
Learn to recognize the signs of self-sabotage:
The greatest gift you can give yourself is self-awareness.
The subconscious nature of self-sabotage is what makes it
so difficult to recognize, but with enough honest
introspection you will begin to understand yourself better.
When you do, you will be able to tell when you are working
in opposition to your goals. You'll be able to tell when
you feel fearful and hesitant about stepping out of your
comfort zones. You'll recognize avoidance behaviors and
take steps to turn them around immediately.
You may think it sounds too easy, but it really IS simple.
You just have to be willing to pay attention, overcome fear
and continue along the path to success – no matter what it
takes.

Don't Be A Victim
It's a sad but true fact that only a very small percentage of
people are truly successful. There are a growing number of
millionaires around the World but they are still in a tiny
minority. And in reality there are very few people who can say
that they are truly happy with their life.
What's more there is little doubt that it will always be that
way!
But you are now in a great position to ensure that you become
part of the minority. You just need to have the right mindset.
Last week I recommended that you take a look at "The Secrets
of Self Made Millionaires" program. If you didn't get the
chance to do so here's the link again:

You see by taking action and investing in yourself you can
really make a difference to your life. Unfortunately there
are so many people who say they want a better life with more
money, a better job, a bigger house, but they will never do
anything about it. They prefer to moan and groan and make
all sorts of excuses like;
"I'm not a lucky person"
"I'm not smart enough"
"I lack the right qualifications"
"My partner won't support me"
"I'm too old/young"
and so on...
These sorts of comments may be familiar to you but I hope
they're not the kind of things you are thinking. If so
you're blaming someone or something else for the situation
you're in right now. You are simply taking on the mindset
of a "Victim".
But they are not the real reason why you don't succeed!
It's easy to hide behind these sorts of excuses but the
reality is that there are many successful and wealthy
people who have overcome these so-called obstacles and
much more.
Unfortunately simply by saying these things you are
conditioning your mind to believe them. And if your mind
is convinced that your current circumstances are not your
fault then there is no way you can change them.
But once you realize that YOU are in control of your own
destiny a world of opportunity will open up.
There's no such thing as good luck or bad luck, only
circumstances that you yourself create by your attitude
and actions.
If you need new skills you can get them; If the object of
your goal requires you to have a qualification then find
out how to go about getting it; If people in your life
are holding you back then maybe it's time to leave them
behind; and your age is irrelevant, it's how you think
that matters.
So get rid of the mentality of a "victim" and instead adopt
the mindset of a millionaire.
